Data by Course TypeFreshman and Transfer Seminars. Through Freshman and Transfer Seminars, new students have the opportunity to participate in one-unit seminars designed to both introduce them to the research university and facilitate connections with a faculty member and fellow students in a small academic setting. UCI funding for freshman and transfer seminars has been eliminated for 2009-10, which accounts for the very small number of seminars being offered this year. The following enrollment tables include the number of seminars taught each quarter and the total student enrollment by class level. Independent Study Courses for Undergraduates. The independent study option, available primarily to upper division students, allows a student or a group of students to create a course with an instructor. The course may include a reading list, group assignments, examinations, papers or similar evidence of intellectual achievement upon which academic credit will be based. Independent study credit is limited to five units per quarter. The following tables provide enrollment and number of credits earned, by class level, for each independent study course offered in Spring Quarter, organized by school. The list of indepdent study courses may be incomplete; please notify Zohreh Soltani, zsoltani@uci.edu, if additional courses should be added. Independent Study Course Enrollments and Credits Earned, Spring 2009 Preparatory Courses for Undergraduates. The preparatory courses are offered in the areas of Writing, Academic English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. These courses prepare undergraduates who lack the necessary skills and knowledge in these areas to succeed in subsequent courses. Graduate Students who require Academic English preparation are also enrolled in the Academic English courses. Preparatory Courses, 2009-10 (Fall Only) Key Courses for Undergraduates. The key courses have been identified by the academic units as introductory courses that undergraduates are required to take in a timely manner to ensure normal progress through the major. The General Education courses are not included in this course type. Last Updated: 11/3/2009 |
