First Year Initiatives

Through the First-Year Integrated Program (FIP) first-year students have the opportunity to participate in a unique learning community through participation in year-long interdisciplinary courses. Click here for more information on FIP. Each year since the program's inception in 2006, Assessment and Research Studies has conducted evaluation and assessment studies designed to capture the degree to which students achieve the learning outcomes associated with both the FIP Program and the individual FIP courses. As part of its approval of FIP, the Council on Educational Policy (CEP) requested that the writing component of the program be reviewed. The yearly reviews of writing are available below:

Through Freshman and Transfer Seminars, new students have the opportunity to participate in one-unit seminars designed to both introduce them to the research university and facilitate connections with a faculty member and fellow students in a small academic setting. UCI funding for freshman and transfer seminars has been eliminated for 2009-10, which accounts for the very small number of seminars being offered this year.
