Academic Planning
Council on Undergraduate Education - Assessment and Research Studies Analysts serve as consultants to Council on Educational Policy and provide critical support and recommendations on policies and procedures relative to undergraduate education at UC Irvine. The consultant on the Programs and Policy Subcommittee of the Council provides advanced analysis in the areas of curricular planning and policy analysis.

UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination (AWPE) - In May of each year all California high school graduating seniors are invited to take the University of California Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE). The following data and analyses reflect the results over time for University of California, Irvine and for all the University of California campuses. Passing the AWPE is one way to satisfy UC's Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWP). Other ways include: a score of 3 or higher in the College Board Advanced Placement Examination in English (Language or Literature); a score of 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level Examination in English (Language A only) or score of 6 or higher on the IB Standard Level Examination in English (Language A only); a score of 680 or higher on the Writing section of the SAT Reasoning Test; a score of 30 or higher on the ACT Combined English/Writing test; or complete with a grade of C or better a transferable college course in English composition worth four quarter or three semester units. In the tables below this group of students is identified as those who had already satisfied the ELWR and were not required to take the AWPE.

Change of Major Website - The Ofice of Assessment & Research Studies is responsible for maintaining the campuswide Change of Major website where the Council on Educational Policy (CEP) approved criteria for all the majors at University of California, Irvine is posted. Change of major criteria for new majors that get approved by CEP are posted to the website on the date they become effective. Furthermore, upon CEP's approval of requested changes to existing chang of major criteria, the website is updated with the new criteria while the old ones remain effective for one year at which time they are deleted from the website. Undergraduate Council - The Dean of Undergraduate Education chairs a committee made up of all the Associate Dean and Academic Advising Directors to ensure that campuswide undergrduate academic issues are reviewed and addressed collectively with a view to improve undergraduate education at the University of California, Irvine. The Office of Assessment & Research Studies is responsible for providing analytical information in support of the items under discussion and review.
